Tragically, Raja Das passed away on December 6. Raja was a childhood friend of Sujay's, the older brother
of Rahul's close friend Anshu, and the son of Raj and Kalpana's dear friends Shyam and Nilima. As a
medical student at Duke University, Raja was conducting advanced research in Pediatric Craniology, and
was expected to graduate in 2008. Raja graduated from Columbia University with a degree in Biomedical
Engineering.
Despite the tragedy, daily life goes on. Raj and Kalpana are in Bombay for their niece Rujuta Shah's
wedding, and just returned from Ahmedabad, where they attended the wedding of Saloni Shah, daughter of
childhood friends Saurabh and Preity Shah. They are heading to Kuala Lumpur for the Global TiE Charter
Member retreat, and then returning to Bombay.
Rahul just completed finals. God only knows what else he's doing. In the beginning of January, he will be
competing in his first three tournaments as a member of Berkeley's debate team.
Sujay is in the middle of finals, and then is scheduled to begin a whirlwind tour: Boston-San
Francisco-Kuala Lumpur-Bombay- Hong Kong-Bangkok-Bombay-Boston. He is trying to simplify this to
Boston-San Francisco-Hong Kong-Bombay-Boston. As a tribute to Raja, he is not drinking alcohol until at
least January 15, 2007, and is hoping other young people will join him in re-thinking the role of alcohol in
their lives. He is looking forward to feeling fresh in the mornings.
